Blizzard Action

Good Morning!
What? Blizzard, you say?

Dangitall.
Dear Autumn, Please come back!

"We demand breakfast & LOTS of it!! While you're about it, how about a fresh load of straw in our shelter, & a load for the pigs too, on us!"
Cheery cows for such a nasty morn, & bossy too... Now you know from where that saying comes.

The pigs were quite lively, rooting in the snow waiting for chow. I made it with hot water, like piggie porridge, & they slurped it right up. I threw a whole bale of straw into their palace in 3 big chunks; the oinkers will have fun fluffing it up & making a sweet nest for themselves.

Padre & his mares are not impressed.
All of them perked up when I dumped huge flakes of hay into their feeders however.
"Mmmmm, a meal served right up to us! No pawing through the snow to find it; Mom, we love you.
But could you possibly bring Autumn back?"
I wish, My Dear Ponehs, believe you me.

    1. I had hoped fall would last until December; but then, that's my wish every year.

  3. Ooh goodness, and here I was moaning about frost on the pumpkin last night :)
They are predicting a few snow showers for us this weekend, not good timing, since my niece will be having an outdoor wedding .....
Love your horses, I so miss mine :(
Stay warm, and thank you for stopping by and saying hello.

    1. Welcome Jo! I sure hope the wedding goes okay (I'll be back to your place, wondering). Rain on your wedding day is good luck. Snow on your wedding day... well, it snowed on my wedding day and here we are, Mr & Mrs, almost 3 decades later.
I didn't know Tennessee got much snow.

    1. Full disclosure - the only photo that is mine from THIS piece is the one of Padre (I mark all my own photos with copyright). Considering how hot it gets where you live, I'm not sure that I'd trade straight across. I can build a fire and wear warm clothes for winter, whereas I might actually -melt- in your summer!

  5. While I don't want that- I am so tired of the hot weather and humidity here. I long for the crisp days of autumn.

  7. A blizzard?! I can't even begin to imagine a blizzard in October. Makes for some lovely pictures, though!
On another note...please stop back and read my reply to your comment on my blog today. I didn't mean to make anyone feel like less of a farmer! We happen to live in one of the most productive non-irrigated farming areas that can be found...it's that simple. (Lancaster County PA) We're actually a very small farm, and all of that huge equipment is a custom operator that comes to harvest for guys like us...who can't/don't want to own that kind of equipment! :)

    1. No worries, the 4Shoes is a farm, just a small one. The machines you have to hire kind of boggle my mind - we do have a newer model small tractor, but you should see the equipment for haying! The cutter & flipper is pulled by a tractor that has to be at least 25 years older than I am, and the baler looks like it's on its' last legs every year! Yikes.

  8. The best part of snow this time of year, at least here, is that it's temporary. It would be kind of cozy for a day or two!

    1. It also kicks us into high gear! Rolling out bales & bale rings for cattle, opening the stock waterer to turn on the heat, packing straw into the henhouse... those little things that you don't want to do in advance, suddenly they need doing RIGHT NOW. Good news is that our Kubota tractor easily moved a round bale; hope it can still do so after they become frozen to the ground! Fingers crossed.

    1. Yesterday was pretty mild and most of the snow just disappeared, though I'm still seeing a lot of white patches this morning. It's only -1*C this morning - practically summer again.

  11. Oh no, I hope it doesn't make it down here. I'm not ready for that mess yet. Hope to get the outdoor wood stove fired up tomorrow though.

    1. We have a woodstove in the livingroom that is our primary heat source in the winter; I've had a few fires to take the chill off the mornings, but it hasn't been needed fulltime yet. The weather can backslide right to fall, if it were up to me, Fall would last until December every year.

  12. Snow really shouldn't happen until late November - that should be a rule! I just missed a great opportunity to go riding (horse) on vacation, but time got away from me. It's been so long now, though, it would probably be pretty risky!

    1. I absolutely agree that snow should never happen before almost December!
