Announcing...

Remember this pic from 2016?
Slipper brought her new beau, CombatBoot, to the 4Shoes to meet her Family.

December 20, 2017 - In Cuba
Down on one knee,
CombatBoot hopefully popped 'The Question',

whilst presenting a nearly flawless 1 carat diamond.

Slipper said 'Yes'!
Our only precious daughter is Engaged!

Is it normal for me to be this terrified?

  1. Just remember to not spend a dime or book a single vendor until you have the budget firmly set. I hope she'll want to keep it simple; otherwise, do yourself a favor and don't attempt an extravaganza without a good professional wedding planner.

    1. Good advice! I SO wish we lived closer so that I could be a part of it, and be more than just the pocketbook... :-(

  2. My 2 cents: it is ONE day, not the entire marriage. No one is going to remember the flowers, cake, invitations, decor or who was or wasn't invited in 30 (Or 3) years. Yes it should be special but it shouldn't have to put anyone in debt. (Hops off soap box)

    1. Your words are wise Linda. I have already tried to float the idea that a wedding in our backyard @ the 4Shoes would be spectacular... so far I'm hearing crickets. I'll keep trying though.

    1. She keeps telling me that...
so why does hearing "don't worry Momma" always MAKE me worry?!?

    1. Yes, I think that the family was due for something wonderful. Like the sun breaking through on a cloudy day.

  5. Congrats! You shouldn't be terrified. If it's the $, that's simple. Here is X amount of money. If they want something more extravagant, they can cover it. Judging by the size of the diamond, they might. I think getting married at 4Shoes would be SO awesome & meaningful!! Outdoor farm weddings can be so gorgeous, and special. My married daughter followed in our footsteps, and payed for everything themselves by choice. The only thing they would let us pay for is something that wasn't a necessity. We payed for (by agreement) a horse drawn carriage ride through town, from the church to the park for photos and then for their guests. If it's the letting go part that terrifies you, we are thrilled to have our kids move on with their lives!! Not everyone feels that way tho. Maybe because our other two adult children still live at home. Your daughter will always still need you, you can count on it. Our family joke is, Brad & I are moving out because our kids won't ;)

    1. I can see the alter, between the Twin Trees (as we call them), twinkle lights wrapped all around the trucks and branches.... but Slipper doesn't share my vision. ;-)

    2. Darn it!! I can totally see it! Maybe she'll come around? It is her wedding tho. I've always been a firm believer of doing whatever makes you happy. It's different for all of us. Do share when the magical day comes around. Love weddings, such a special time!

    3. Slipper is a city slicker.
      I do not understand it.

  6. Congratulations!! We had a wedding for our daughter here at the house 2 1/2 years ago. It was a lot of fun! The highlight was the dancing afterward. I’ve never seen so many people dancing at a wedding. If I could do over, I would hire someone who could organize things because it got overwhelming at times when things didn’t work out like planned (like the photographer taking too long and forgetting to serve the wedding cake! We had cake and cupcakes, so people took the cupcakes and it wasn’t a total loss. In retrospect, I would do even more cupcakes and keep the main cake just for the couple cutting and photos.) Anyway, It was a blast and I’m sure yours will be, too!

    1. I would have one of those party tents set up, complete with wooden dance floor, we would blast off, like, an hour of fireworks. It would be beautiful. But not likely. I am shocked by the prices I'm seeing - like photographers pkgs that start around the $3K mark and go up...

  7. So exciting! Yes- I was nervous too. We paid for some of our daughters wedding but they were both a little older and paid for most. Just to let you know the catering never tasted to me like it did at the resturant. I made the cake so no complaints there!

    1. I think she's leaning toward a late night lunch rather than a catered meal, which should cost considerably less.
